At 20, Jess is one of our younger members at Kellars who has recently been employed as a Health and Safety Business Admin Apprentice.
Not only is Business Admin new to Jess, Health and Safety is something that she has always took an interest to, after learning about computer systems in Sixth Form but has never had the opportunity to explore on a higher level.
She says “My Apprenticeship lasts for around 18 months, giving me plenty of time to gain some knowledge in the flooring industry, Business Admin and Health and Safety”
“I was so excited when I found out I got the job at Kellars, and couldn’t wait to get started working in a new environment and get involved in something different”
“Since starting work at Kellars it has been an interesting learning experience for me getting to grips with a variety of aspects in Health and Safety Admin and I’m looking forward to exploring this in more detail”
Jess has only been employed by Kellars for 3 month but says that she has already learnt so much in such a short space of time and has enjoyed getting to know everyone so well.
She is based in our North East Head office, in Shildon where she has explored our warehouse, and is familiarising herself with the day-to-day duties.
Jess is now involved with EdApp, a mobile application focusing on all aspects of Health and Safety, as well as using iAuditor and making sure all staff have the correct PPE.
“I have never worked in the flooring industry before, so this is a great challenge and opportunity for me to develop my knowledge in Flooring, Health and Safety operations and Business Administration.”
The new Apprentice is keen to expand her skills in her Admin role, where she will be continuing to learn about Health and Safety operations at Kellars along with the computer systems.
So far, she said her favourite thing about being in the office is the people; “Everyone is so friendly and enthusiastic, as well as working alongside Lee who is Health and Safety Manager” who is helping Jess settle into the H&S Admin department.
On a day-to-day basis, Jess will be ensuring that the Retail and Distribution operations are carried out safely and efficiently, contacting group companies and distribution depots nationwide via email and telephone.
Outside of work Jess is more than likely around her horses which she loves getting out and about on hacks. Jess also loves to spend her free time taking her dogs on walks and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
